Västerås is located 100 km west of Stockholm at the beautiful lake Mälaren. The city dates back to the year 1000. Its location at the lake Mälaren, made Västerås from 1200 onwards an important trading and shipping port for the copper, iron and later silver from the region. Sweden's oldest higher learning institute was founded in 1623 by Johannes Rydbeckius and called the Rudbeckianska Gymnasiet. |
