Tokyo is a young city, approximately 400 years. Sightseeing wise it has not very much to offer. A full day sightseeing tour should cover most of it. A big portion is shopping and almost traded as a sightseeing activity.

If you cant sleep or want to get up at 4 in the morning and you are a seafood lover than the Tsukiji fish market is an absolute must. Watch the tuna auction and enjoy later the freshest sashimi and sushi breakfast money can buy in one of the numerous stalls. Prices are reasonable. ask for today's specialty.
In two hours drive you reach Mt. Fuji. She is called Lady and represents the modern Japan and is the predominant landscape of Japan. The surrounding area Hakone is having some beautiful volcanic lakes and very charming guesthouses frequently visited by  many people from Tokyo and Yokohama.

Sightseeing by motor coach or by bullet train

Harajuku is the shopping area for the young people "who want to be very different". It's a Japanese fashion which you can't find anywhere else in the world. Anything goes to express yourself. The beauty of it is that nobody looks the same. It's probably a way to get out of the old traditional Japanese way of life and show your own character.

It is said that Tokyo has more restaurants per capita than any other place on earth. Japanese food is considered to be very healthy as they don't use much fat. The Japanese live longer than most other people in the world. Besides normal cooked food they are famous for their wide variety of raw fish dishes sashimi and sushi. Sashimi is only raw sea food served with wasabe , a green mustard like spice and white radish Sushi is served on or with sushi rice and some wrapped in thin seaweed sheets. Teppanyaki is fried meat, seafood vegetables and rice on a big hot plate. The chef will catch your attention with his acrobatic cooking style by throwing knives in the air. This cooking style was imported from Mongolia and has similarities with the Mongolian barbeque. Tempura is vegetables and seafood buttered in a special flour dip and deep fried. Well done it has little oily taste as long the oil is fresh. top restaurant fry the food in different fryers so the taste does not mix. The origin of tempura is supposed be Portuguese. The Chinese have influenced the Japanese steamboat. There are two variations Sukiaki and Shabu Shabu. The ingredients are the same. Thinly sliced meat and a variety of fresh vegetables. Sukiaki is cooked in a Soya sauce and Shabu Shabu in plain hot water. Many dishes are served with dips and sauces and often quite sweet. Most meals are served with miso soup, a soya based soup with some sea food, mushrooms vegetables. There are variations depending on what the chef has found on the market. Go for a set meal, it's good and reasonable Y 2500-6000.
