Stuttgart became a city in the early 13th century and is today the state capital of of Baden-Württemberg. It's the home of Robert Bosch, Daimler Chrysler, Porsche to mention a few companies.

 

 
Stuttgart is the home of two world famous car brands, Mercedes Benz and Porsche and the most innovative car component manufacturer Bosch. May 20, 2006  the new Mercedes Benz Museum was officially opened. True car lover can't miss this Euro 150 million worth of show. From the first car and truck ever built to the famous racing cars, everything is there.
Metzingen a good hours drive south of  Stuttgart is this small town with original factory outlets of a lot of brand names like Hugo Boss, Bally and Escada and more.
2 hours drive from Stuttgart you'll reach Strasbourg in France. This city is full of historical architecture like  the Cathedral and the Petite France area. It is as well famous for its gastronomy like chocolates, Eaux de vie, Foie Gras and wines of Alsace  appreciated by gourmets from all over the world.
2 hours drive south of Stuttgart you have the lovely Lake Constance with beautiful water, excellent for sailing and lovely beaches to take a swim with a view on the alps.

Stuttgart is one of the most attractive food areas in Germany. The region is located north of Switzerland and east of France which has influenced the local cuisine. Specialties are Black Forest ham, cakes and in autumn game. Dear, wild boar, pheasant and other of wild birds. Some typical local dishes are Maultschen stuffed pasta with meat or vegetables like spinach. Schupfnudeln are noodles cut with a typical noodle knife. Sauerbraten is beef marinated in red wine and served with red cabbage. Apfelkuchen is an apple cake.

 

The Stuttgart area has some of the best wines in Germany. Try the Grauburgunder, Spätburgunder and Weißburgunder. Another but dangerous drink are the so called Schnapps made from a wide variety of fruits. It has an alcohol content over 40% and you drink it neat, sometimes chilled. Beer? yes they have varies breweries. Stuttgarter Hofbrauhaus is the best known one.

 


The nightlife is more quiet than in other big cities. You will find plenty of pubs, bars and in summer beer gardens. germanies second biggest Oktoberfest takes place in Bad Canstatt, a suburb of Stuttgart.
