More Literature on San Francisco

The first inhabitants of California probably come from Asia 11-12.000 years ago until Europeans discovered this beautiful coastland in 1542 by the Spaniard Cabrillo. Sir Francis Drake landed in SF Bay 1579.  From 1769 to 1821 California was a part of the Spanish Empire. The Mexicans took California when they gained freedom from the Spanish Empire in 1821. The Mexican American war in 1846-1848 ended their reign and California became a part of the US. California Dream is still there and for many young people a dream destination.

To make your life easy we suggest you get a City Pass to move around and see some of the best places. A ride with the famous cable car is a must. Use it when you go from Union Square to Fisherman's WharfGhirardelli Square (turnaround of the cable car) or Ghiradelli Chocolate Factory. From Fisherman's Wharf you should as well take a tour to Alcatraz. Make sure you don't get locked up.

Take a trip to Muir Woods to see the famous Redwood trees...they are huge make a stop at the picturesque harbour of Sausalito. A day trip takes you to your favourite vineyards in Sonoma and Napa Valley. Don't miss this chance for a wine tasting.

Fisherman's Wharf features a big number of excellent seafood Restaurants. Due to the large number of Asians in the San Francisco area you can be sure to find a variety of good Asian Restaurants as well. Italian, French and Mexican is plenty available.  >> Restaurants

Since 1896 San Francisco has its own famous Beer brewed by the Anchor Steam Brewery. On Columbus Avenue you'll find The San Francisco Brewing Company as San Francisco's Original Brewpub serving between 4 to 7 different types of beer daily. Not far away you have the Napa and Sonoma Valleys with it's famous California wines.

As you like it.. probably the world largest homosexual scenes. Besides that SF has it all from theatres to Pubs, Disco's and wine bars. Please note it's no smoking in many places.
