Located in the heart of Europe and surrounded by many countries it has had a troublesome history. Powerful kings and emperors as well as the ugliest dictator have shaped this country. The lessons from the first and worse the second world war  have been learnt and made Germany to one of the most stable democracies in today's world. It has a great history in music, literature and technical innovations. Made in Germany still stands as first class products.

Traveling in Germany is very easy and comfortable. From high speed trains (IC - Intercity) to high speed driving on the famous Autobahn. Air and bus is another good alternative. Shopping in Germany is much the same as in most big cities in Europe. Big department stores, some are specialized selling anything in male or female fashion, electrical and electronic goods, sport items. You have plenty of boutiques. Whatever you buy don't forget the duty free and VAT reimbursement when you live outside the EU.

Berlin Germany has some very exciting major cities. Berlin and Hamburg are known for their nightlife, you will always find a bar or pub 24 hours round the clock. Munich fills the top three. They are rich in history and most buildings have been rebuilt after the war.
Black Forest, home of the coo coo clock, Black Forest ham, cakes beautiful landscapes with its mountains and spectacular views. You will find old monasteries, churches and castles.
The Baltic sea Believe it, in the north you have a beautiful coast with some lovely holiday islands like Sylt, Rügen or beaches like Timmendorfer Strand.
Dachau concentration camp Germany's dark history is a part of it's recent past. It's amazing what human beings can do to each other, and we never learn. The Dachau  concentration camp outside the beautiful city of Munich is preserved as a monument of evil.
river Danube The Danube river is an important water way for transportation of a wide range of bulk products. It offers magnificent boat rides where you can see plenty of historical sights like castles and churches. The city of  Dresden is a good place to start this trip. Dresden is a cultural rich city worth to see.
river Mosel The Mosel river is famous for its white wines and beautiful scenery. Stay over night in or near vineyard and enjoy the friendly atmosphere and good wine. You will find hundreds of small castles along the Mosel  shoreline. Some are rebuilt to hotels.
Heidelberg must be one of Germany's most famous city for its old university and its romantic settings and surrounding landscape.

German's are traditionally not known for the "haute cuisine" but solid food. The most known representative is Haxe pork knuckle and Sauerkraut. Traditionally, Germans have a hearty breakfast with bacon and eggs, plenty of cold cuts, cheese their gorgeous fresh buns, yoghurt and a big pot of coffee. For lunch they have a warm meal and dinner is sandwich time with pickled cucumbers, red beet, ham, sausages (never ending varieties) and cheese.

German's are probably world champions in sausages, hams, bread, beer and schnapps. Over the years their cuisine has become more elegant and blended with foreign influence. You can actually talk about the new German haute cuisine. When you eat traditional dishes make sure you are hungry, as the portions are big.

What do you think of, BEER, right. They are good at it. However there are so many other beverages. Schnapps made from genuine fruits, Wine, Sekt (Champagne type), wide range of fruit juices, diary drinks and an endless range of mineral waters coming from their vast range of spa's.  Try their famous Konditoreien, It's a very old coffee house tradition which serves anything from a range of coffee, tea but as well wine and beer. With it goes the calorie bomb... cakes, cakes and cakes. American coffee chains might have a tough time to compete against them.

The big cities offer plenty of entertainment. In Hamburg and Berlin bars and pubs are open 24 hours if the owner so wishes. Often one will open when the other across the street closes. most hotel bars do stay open as long as they have customers who drink. All major towns have red-light districts. Discos play local as well as international hits.
