The humble beginnings date back to 1091. Over the years Freiburg has grown and is today an important university city in Baden. Located at the foothills of the Black Forest it is considered to offer among the best leisure opportunities in Germany. It offers many employment possibilities in the field of medicine, pharmacy, solar energy, biotechnology and  electronics due to the research capabilities at the university.

 

In a way the whole city is an old town. stroll around and discover old buildings, churches, small boutiques and plenty of cozy small pubs and restaurants to tickle your taste buts.
If you are looking for fresh air, lovely nature, a walk or bicycle tour in the wild or in winter some good skiing you will find it nearby in the black forest. Hundreds of small chalets o r larger hotels are available. Check with your concierge.
The Feldberg is the highest mountain in the Black Forest. Beautiful region to track and in winter time to put on your ski's.

The kitchen of Baden ranks among the best in Germany and that has good reasons: Bathe borders on various The people are spoilt with sun and the good product they get in the region. Baden is surrounded by Swabia, Switzerland and France. The kitchen reflects very much it's neighbors. try Knepfli , Bubesspitzle, Schaeufele and Game ragout, and the famous black forests Kirschcreme.

 

Rothaus Tannenzäpfle is brewed in Freiburg and is a pilsner beer. It is not as bitter as some other German beers. They have a Weissbier as well. The region is however more known for it's nice wines. Some of the best come from Kaiserstuhl. They have riesling, pinot blamc, gris and noir.

 


As Freiburg has a big student population you will find and active nightlife in the bars and pubs.

If you are in December in Freiburg don't miss the real Christmas market with it's hot red wines (spiked with rum is the best), wide range of cookies and sausages.
