Dusseldorf's history  dates back to 1135. in 1350 the earldom Berg became a dukedom and Dusseldorf its residence. 1510-1520 the dukedoms Jülich, Kleve and Berg as well as the earldoms of Mark and Ravensberg where meged and Dusseldorf became the capital. in 1946 it became the capital of Northrhine-Westfalia. Today Dusseldorf has 570.000 inhabitants and  is among others a leading trade fair, media and banking city and the "Ëuropean Japanese capital" with 45o Japanese companies.

 

Dusseldorf is a famous trade fair city hosting some of the largest fairs in the world. Messe Dusseldorf is featuring among others  Medica, Boat, CPD women.
A Rhine River Tour is something not to be missed. You can sail north to Holland and south to Switzerland. If you have enough time you can even go as far as the Black Sea.
Kevelaer is a famous catholic pilgrimage destination. You find a basilica and the chapel dating back to the middle of the 16th century.
If you have not been in the old town or Alt Stadt, you have not been in Dusseldorf. Restaurants, bars, pubs and mini breweries can be found in this part of the city. The old town carries the nick name "longest bar in the world". You better believe it.
   

A specialty in Dusseldorf are their Dutch mussels. you find them in many restaurants in the old town. The old town is a food paradise with it's mall eateries serving dishes from all over Europe.

 

Dusseldorf most famous beverage is Alt Bier. You find it in all bars, pubs and hotels. The city has 10 breweries within its city limits. In the old town you find  Ferdinand Schumacher, Privatbrauerei Frankenheim, Brauerei Im Füchschen and probably the most famous one Zum Uerige

 


The old town is the place to be. You find pubs, bars, discos, restaurants and easy eateries more than enough. On top of that you one of the best cabarets in Germany.
