Buying a computer ?

Buying a computer can be quite a hassle, especially when you are not knowledgeable on what to buy of all these complicated machines. Besides the computer you have a lot of other hardware, like scanners, printers, digital cameras.

There are two ways to decide what to buy:

• figure out what you what to do with the computer

• which software do you want to buy. Software manufacturer describe under system requirement the minimum needed hardware 

Here are a couple of questions and hints to help you:

Spreadsheets, Letters, email, surfing in the internet - typical home computer activities.

Standard computer, they come today with 667-866 Mhz speed, 20 Mb hard disk, built in 56K modem. They are internet ready and have AGP graphics capabilities also for games. You read a lot about test results of chips, different computers, speed and what have you. If you are a PRO it's ok, otherwise it just keeps your brain busy and at the end you couldn't bother.

Most branded manufacturers have these computers ready available in store.

PRICE, depends on where you live, US about US$ 900-1.100, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan about US$ 750.

If you want to spend some more, check with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) if he offers broadband and you could upgrade your modem for higher speed.
