China has one of the oldest cultures dating back 4.000 years. The country was ruled by many dynasties, very often signed by wars. China has basically never fought a war outside its own borders, but cruel ones in the country. Many Chinese living outside China and Taiwan where forced to flee to avoid suppression and even death. 

 

Great Wall is one of the world wonder protected  by the UN heritage program.
Macau a special administrative territory after the handover from the Portuguese. It has maintained a lot of it's old colonial flavor. The old town makes you feeling to be in Portugal.
Shanghai is an amazing city. The birth town of the communist party in 1921 is today something like the heart of Chinese capitalism. It's booming like no other town, you can virtually smell the boom. The old city center, Xintiandi is completely renovated and houses plenty of entertainment and restaurants. 
Hong Kong is one of the most exciting cities on earth. Handed over by the British to China after 100 years of colonial reign it is today a special administrative territory. As a leading money and shipping center Hong Kong offers a lot of entertainment and good food as well.
   
 

Chinese food has many varieties. Besides the mainstream styles, you will find a lot of small places serving food from mom's kitchen. Some of the major styles are:

Beijing Style Originated from palace and Shandong cooking, is good at broiling,  frying, stir-frying, stewing. Famous dishes include Beijing dumplings, Beijing duck, smoked chicken.

Cantonese Style is probably the most well known Chinese cuisine, full of variety in terms of ingredients. Dishes tend to be sweet and taste slippery, fresh and cool and very decorative.

Chaozhou Style Most Chaozhou dishes taste crispy, light, cool, and fresh. Chaozhou style is well known for the its way of cooking, expensive ingredients such as shark fin, bird's nest and sea slug.

Sichuan Style Sichuan Dishes are famous for their  diverse tastes. Major features of Sichuan Dishes are dry frying, yuxiang, gongbao, tongue-numbing and hot, strange taste, chilli. Dishes include Yuxiang Meat Slice, Gongbao Chicken Mince, Sea Cucumber and Crispy Rice With Seafood.

Szechwan and Hunan Cuisine  use quite some chilli pepper and pepper oil. It's very popular in the southern part of China.
Shanghai Cuisine features a lot of seafood in a vast varieties and preparations.

 

China is famous for i's wide range of tea's  The wines are on the sweet side and their beers are generally light in flavour. The most famous one is Tsintao.

 


The big cities have everything from disco's, pubs to night clubs. The ladies exist as well but don't get stopped by the police.

HYGIENE

History hasn't changed the toilet habits outside the big hotels. Squat-latrines are every where. Keep your nose closed and don't forget to bring toilet paper along.
