Through excavations it is believed that human life existed already 200.000 years ago. The Etruscans were the early known settlers followed by the Greeks. The Roman Empire's history is full of questions. Some signs suggest it dates back as much as 1.000 BC as the Roman Republic. Italy was split into many small Kingdoms, and only united under King Victor EMMANUEL II in 1861. Italy is a founding member of Nato as well as the European Economic Community predecessor of today's EU, European Union.

Italy has plenty to offer. From the mountains and lakes in the north to beautiful beaches along the Mediterranean Sea.

If you haven't seen Rome you haven't been in Italy. This city is like a museum with Etruscan prehistoric art, monuments from the Roman Empire, churches fountains and plenty of museum. Last but not least the famous Roman lifestyle will surely please you.
Don't miss the City of Romance Venice with all it's (smelly) canals. Some people say it's sinking every year further and further. One day it might be gone,
One of the most beautiful regions must be Tuscany. Lovely vineyards, olive trees and some of the most fascinating cities in all of Italy, Pisa, Sienna, Florence to mention a few.

Italian food is normally known as pizza, pasta and minestrone soup. However the Italian Cuisine is one of the most versatile depending on in which region you are. One of the reason is that Italy only got united in 1861 which means that every region had it's typical local cuisine. You will have the influence from North Africa when you are in Sicily, French when you are in the west and Austrian when you are in Southern Tyrol. Local produce are always the main ingredients.
